We did it!

After months of training NDC were ready to hit the ground running for the Jane Tomlinson Pennine Lancashire 10k on July 11th. A great day was had by all. Ray and David completed the run in an impressive 48.5 minutes apiece and, after a far less militant training schedule, Laura and Charli finished at a more leisurely 1 hour and 24 minutes. The day was rounded off with a lovely pub lunch, well, we felt we deserved it after all that exercise!

The NDC team are in training...
With less than three months to go until the inaugural Jane Tomlinson's Pennine Lancashire 10K run, we're dusting off our running shoes and hitting the pavements.
Our client Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, a new economic development company charged with improving the image of Pennine Lancashire, has successfully brought the prestigious charity run to the area. So we were pretty pleased to be given the opportunity to create the logo for the event. We were even more pleased to see former Olympic athlete, Steve Cram, modeling it at the launch!
The Run For All event will take place in Blackburn on 11 July, and hopes to attract 5,000 participants and raise thousands of pounds for local charity. So if you fancy joining us or would like to show your support in the form of a donation visit www.runforall.com for more details.
Watch this space for training progress reports!

JG meets DG
As part of our support of sport in the community, Northern Design Collective has struck an agreement with Sale Sharks to sponsor one of their most exciting young players: James Gaskell. After a blistering, man-of-the-match winning performance against Cardiff Blues last week, David Gooda was invited to present James with his MotM champagne. James is very much 'one to watch' - we'll be following (and supporting) his future career with interest.

Manchester City Council: excellent, and modest with it..
There's clearly something in the water in Manchester. Not content with supporting the RBA next week, we're also very pleased to have been asked to support Manchester City Council's Awards for Excellence 2009, The awards recognise excellence in service from Manchester's employees. Entirely our cup of tea. Well done to all those nominated - we look forward to the opening of the golden envelopes!
Who’ll get the gong?
The Northern Design Collective is delighted to be sponsoring the 2009 Recruitment Business Awards in Manchester on October 1st, where we'll be presenting the award for Best Copywriting. On the hoof for East Cheshire Hospice

A dedicated contingent of NDC-ers braved the cold and the dark to do the sponsored East Cheshire Hospice Midnight Walk on September 12th. Over 1,000 walkers, led by Coronation Street’s Samia Smith (Maria) and Alan Halsall (Tyrone), tackled the 10k route through Macclesfield to raise much-needed funds for the Hospice.
NDC Directors David and Dilani Gooda and Client Services Co-ordinator Charli Sutton were amongst them, wearing their fetching NDC woolly hats. There were a few aching muscles the following day, deserving of much tea and sympathy back at NDC Towers.
It’s not too late to donate to the Hospice – contact us or visit www.justgiving.com/charli-sutton to make your pledge. First to donate wins an NDC beanie hat!

Ray sees the light!
After 13 years in our nation’s capital, Ray, our Client Services Director, has finally made the move up north. Despite being what most people considered to be a confirmed Londoner, Ray was tempted to the northwest following his extensive work with Elevate East Lancashire on their last 4 Annual Reports and the Pennine Lancashire website.
Unable to resist the seductive imagery of the beautiful Pennine landscape any longer, Ray and family have now settled in Todmorden on the border between Lancashire and Yorkshire. It’s business as usual at NDC, however. Ray and David will continue to tirelessly travel the length and breadth of the country in service of our clients, wherever they are based.

It’s a boy!

We’re delighted to announce that Laura welcomed baby George Lewis Darbyshire into the world on May 22nd. George, who weighed in at 5lb 14oz, was born on the same day as Morrissey, of Smiths fame – in the same hospital that Mozza made his own debut, 50 years before (George’s Dad Andrew is a big fan). Judging by the quality of his cries, baby George is also in fine voice – so move over Morrissey!

PPMA 2009

With PPMA making its way to sunny Manchester this year, we simply couldn't stand by and let the event pass without recognition. We were very pleased to be able to sponsor the thinking person's session of the whole conference - Stephen Taylor (of Taylor Haig) speaking about the future of local government. Of course, being nominated for our first award didn't hurt either, and we danced the night away en masse at the Midland hotel.
We’re on the move
Small is beautiful, but nothing can stay the same forever. Continued success has seen our turnover double every year since we started, growth which has been reflected in the size of our team.
We couldn’t fit all the extra brainpower, energy and expertise into our old place. So, to accommodate our ever-growing Collective, we’ve taken new offices in the heart of Manchester. We’ve still got all the strategic genius, attention to detail and high standards of client service that you’ve come to expect, but now with a bit more space and a very accessible, client-friendly location.
Pop in and see us. We’ve got some lovely biscuits.
We’re expanding!
In the current economic climate, you could be forgiven for feeling a little gloomy. But it’s not all bad news. In fact, at Northern Design Collective we’re all feeling very positive indeed. Business is buoyant, clients are happy and our team is expanding.
New joiners Abby Bentham and Charlotte Sutton have taken key roles within Client Services, bringing a wealth of expertise and experience to our team. They’re quite nice people too. Check them out in the People section of this website.
